Natasha & Blessed had the best kind of city elopement. They got ready together in their downtown apartment, followed by a rooftop first look overlooking the entire Toronto skyline and cityscape. We then jetted off to Toronto City Hall where they had an intimate elopement and ceremony among their family, the rest of the day was basically spent travelling to various parts of the city to capture some lovely portraits of the two of them. The entire day felt like a sort of editorial photoshoot where I got to pick and choose ideal locations and I had two models looking the part to make it all come together. We got to hit up Cherry Beach, which was surprisingly quiet for a weekend, but then again it was the Fall and November so it sort of makes sense that we were the only ones there. Before heading to dinner we hit up Osgoode Hall next to City Hall and we did a few intimate night portraits. Like I always tell couples, when the sun goes down we are presented with some of the most unique opportunities for portraits, especially in an urban jungle like Toronto. I'm glad these two trusted me enough to wonder off into the night for some photos. To cap off the evening they had their closest friends and family meet them at House on Parliament for a beautiful quaint dinner. The vintage aesthetic of the restaurant was pretty perfect for the overall feel of the day.
Although the wedding day itself was incredible and an absolute breeze, the most memorable thing for me about this Toronto wedding was getting to meet up with them the next morning along with Blessed's mother. She had brought some traditional African wedding attire with her on her trip to Canada for the wedding, it was very important for them to capture some photos in these garments, and I'm glad they asked me because it made for incredible images. Toronto is such a diverse city with so many different people from different walks of life, I'm glad I got the chance to be experience something new and different than the Canadian norm. To be honest, the contrast of the colourful garments with the urban concrete jungle of downtown Toronto made for an almost surreal photographic experience, truly one for the memory books.
Toronto elopements can be this easy, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Toronto is an incredibly diverse place, just because you get eloped or married at Toronto City Hall doesn't mean you'll only have architecture and urban settings at your disposal. A quick walk or drive down the road can lead to a world of endless possibilities and opportunity for memorable photographs.
