This was one of the coolest, quickest and most straight up elopements I've ever photographed. Lisa and Gevi's choice to quickly elope at Toronto's City Hall was in an odd way, extremely perfect. Surrounded by their parents and one close friend, the intimate atmosphere was truly effortless. To top it off, they're both low-key cool cats (and they pull off the badass attitude exquisitely) so I respected that the entire wedding + pics lasted about an hour or so. Literally.
Over the past year I've begun to reach out to my couple's to give me a small write-up about their wedding. It's so important for me to get inside perspective from the people I go with since I believe it creates a more personal experience for me as a photographer, and in result I truly feel like I can create a better understanding for myself on what is truly important for these people that I work with on such an intimate level
Here's Lisa's insight perspective on her Toronto City Hall Elopement and wedding details.
"I never imagined being married at city hall but it worked for us and I couldn’t be happier. No stress, no fuss - easy, simply, city wedding. Also, I always loved autumn weddings so I wanted that to be incorporated in some way for us. There wasn’t much DIY in terms of decor. We planned everything in two weeks - from booking the wedding, buying the flowers, picking the outfits and even getting the photographers ;) No wedding planners or rehearsal dinners needed.
We didn’t have any expectations and I think that made all of the difference. I felt comfortable in my outfit. I was excited to officially be married. Both of our parents were there. And we got to take some lovely photographs outside with the autumn leaves. What more could a girl want?
Everything was arranged within a two-week timespan. I phoned three different florists, told them what I wanted, and went with the one that was actually available within my timeframe. (Coriander Girl). I wasn’t interested in a traditional gown, especially for a City Hall wedding. One Friday, I ended work early and I had to take my dog to get a new collar from Unleashed in the City on Ossington. By chance, I drove by Loversland and so my dog and I stopped in for a visit and within an hour, left with the outfit. A black jumpsuit. The only thing left to buy was shoes. That night, right before closing, I ran into David’s on Bloor Street. I tried on my wedding outfit in their backroom, so we could find the perfect shoes to match. I landed on a pair of black, suede, pumps. On the day of the wedding, I did my own hair and makeup, and the whole family took ubers to City Hall.
I am not one to give advice, everyone has their own way of doing things. I’ll only say this, for those who believe they can’t plan a wedding in two weeks, we are proof you can."
And in honour of Lisa & Gevi and their elopement, I'll keep this short and sweet. The end.
